According to reports, the health ministry plans to regulate the ePharmacy market in the country due the misuse of data. According to reports, the health ministry is working on policies which could regulate how these pharmacies operate.
According to some quoted sources, certain members of the Ministry are in favor of closing these epharmacies who have allegedly been engaging in malpractices. According to the source quoted, the government could take action against these e-pharmacies.
The source said that the Health Ministry had taken note of the malpractices in the sector, which led to concerns about data privacy, the sale of medicines without prescription and predatory prices.
This info is a result of the Drugs Controller General of India’s (DCGI) show-cause letter sent to online pharmacies last month, asking why they should not be punished for selling and distributing medicines without a license.
DCGI stated in an earlier notice that “This Office has received numerous representations from time-to-time raising concerns about the sale of medications through online, internet, or other electronic platforms, including various mobile apps, in violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 & Rules.” This includes the sale of drugs listed in Schedule H,HI andX that are only permitted to be sold retail with a valid prescription from a registered physician and under the supervision by a pharmacist.
